How I Met Myself
AN ODYSSEY IN MODERN ADULTING
THE MALE MILLENNIAL TWIST ON THE EAT, PRAY, LOVE EXPERIENCE
Unsatisfied with being unsatisfied in the modern adult world, the author sets out on a global odyssey with very little intention beyond a desire to see the world, to bust out of the office and live a remote work life, and to just, run. As the journey begins, it is led by a scattered, uncommitted, distracted captain with no treasure map and a maverick “me against the world” mindset.
Quickly though, Restivo finds a new purpose to explore his self and place in the adult world, while having fun humorously poking at the Millennial condition.
As he works and travels location to location, month to month, beach to city, cold to warm, isolation to social immersion, the confrontations that drive the story are mostly internal, in a series of self- and social-evaluations of modern issues not uncommon from his peers, despite the unique and Instagram-worthy surroundings. In the end, the lessons learned were at home within:
- Emotional Intelligence is good.
- Lamenting the past or fretting the future is bad.
- Being around people is good.
- Modern dating is bad.
- Balance and being present in the moment is good.
- Bali Belly is bad. Very bad.
- Being open, honest, and vulnerable is good.
Like most writers, I have an actual non-writing job that pays me money. But as you’ll read about and most certainly enjoy in How I Met Myself, passion is what I was missing from my professional life and writing is what scratches that itch. Exploring the human condition, both my own and of others, is an exciting endeavor. Creating stories for an audience to find relatability and take comfort in the commonality of the chaos. – I also like golf.
